House with Three Courtyards
Located on a compact site in Adjiringanor, Accra, House with Three Courtyards is defined by a freestanding double-story breezeblock façade that wraps around a sequence of interior rooms and outdoor patios. The porous enclosure mediates between the house and its suburban surroundings, offering privacy, shading, and filtered views while integrating three courtyards and a green roof.
The one-and-a-half-story structure follows an organic floor plan that moves between open and enclosed spatial conditions. Drawing from courtyard typologies, the design creates privacy without isolation and introduces varied lighting and ventilation scenarios throughout. The façade’s folds respond to the courtyard locations, forming structural pockets that support the breezeblock surface and generate intimate outdoor spaces.
The result is a compact and inward-oriented home that reintroduces layered spatial experiences and greenery into a dense, rapidly developing neighborhood.
